2nd - Jenna Thurin

Mrs. Thurin's 2nd Grade Classroom

Welcome to 2nd grade! I am so excited for this year at Plat Elementary School with all of you! My name is Jenna Thurin.  This is my 11th year of teaching, and my 4th year at Plat Elementary school! I feel very lucky to have found such a wonderful community to live and teach in! I was born and raised in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin where my family still lives.
I did my Undergradute work at UW-Milwaukee in Early Childhood Education and I completed my Masters Degree at Concordia University in Curriculum and Instruction. I have lived in Richfield now for three years and love all of the community events, and how friendly everyone always is! Some of my favorite things to do are: travel, listen to music, spend time with my family , run, and learn new things! This is truly a wonderful place to be and this year will be nothing short of amazing!

Our classroom this year is full of exciting things to do! We are especially excited to have the addition of more Chrome Books in our room. These will continue to be used for Reading, Writing and Math, as well as for other explorations and research throughout our day. Other pieces of technology that we are lucky to have in our room are LearnPads, an Epson projector, and a Document Camera that we can use interactively in our learning.

During our Readers Workshop, we will be working with Fiction, Nonfiction, Series Book Clubs, and more! Each day we have time together for a lesson, independent work time, partner time, and share time. We have conference times with the teacher to set goals together and see what strategies we have mastered into habits!
Writers Workshop will have the same structure and we will be working on writing Small Moments, Nonfiction Teaching Books, Fictional Stories, Lab Reports and Poetry.

During our RTI Team Time we be doing a Daily 5-like Routine that will consist of choosing: Listening to Reading, Working on Writing, Reading to Someone, Reading to Self, Practicing Math Facts and Word Work.

We will also be working with Daily 3 Math that correlate with the learning objectives for the week.  We are excited to continue our Handwriting curriculum called "Handwriting Without Tears." In Science and Social Studies we will be exploring an array of topics, and diving into deeper research and inquiry on the information we are introduced to!
