4th - Mark Datthyn

Mr. Datthyn's Fourth Grade Class

Welcome! I'm excited to work with my fourth grade class. Without a doubt, I know this will be an exciting and personally rewarding school year. From my past experiences, I have found that fourth graders have a zealous enthusiasm for learning and are quality people to interact with on a daily basis. I will be starting my seventeenth year at Richfield Elementary and twentieth year in education overall. Prior to teaching, I had the opportunity to work with children in many different capacities. My roles included that of a summer/sports camp counselor, officiating/instructing youth sports, before/after school employee, and was the Youth Sports and Family Director for a YMCA branch.

I earned my bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. I would later go back to UWM and receive a teaching certificate in Elementary Education with a minor in Social Sciences. As I move along in my teaching career, I have taken several continuing education classes.

In fourth grade, the students are presented with a vast array of stimulating subjects. The curriculum has taken on a new look over the past few years. Students will receive daily instruction in the areas of reading workshop, writing workshop, Words Their Way(spelling), Handwriting Without Tears, math, social studies, and science. Students also receive instruction in physical education, music, art, library, Spanish, computers, and Keyboarding Without Tears.

As part of their fourth grade experience, students will participate in many memorable activities inside the classroom. The fourth graders have the opportunity to take band or orchestra. Fourth graders will be active participants when taking part in a multitude of field trips.

Over the course of the school year, the boys and girls will accomplish many tasks. Come take a closer look. I think you will be simply amazed!

Take care,
Mr. Datthyn
