2nd - Matthew Theisen

t

Welcome to 2nd grade at Plat Elementary!!! My name is Matt Theisen and I am excited to start my third year of teaching at such an amazing school with wonderful staff and families.  I grew up in Slinger, WI and graduated from UW-Stevens Point in 2014 with a degree in Elementary Education and Health Education.  It has always been a dream of mine to move back home and teach where I grew up.  My first two years at Plat Elementary were such a success that I'm anxious to start the new year.  During my first two years of teaching here, it has become clear how dedicated this district is to both students and their families and I'm super proud to be part of such a wonderful team.

A little about myself: I love spending time with my family, especially my two five-year-old nephews and 3 month old niece.  Family means a lot to me, and during the summer months, we enjoy going on camping trips up north, fishing, boating, and four-wheeling.  I enjoy playing softball and volleyball during the summer as well and most nights you can find me on the field or court at Pioneer Bowl or Loggers Park. During the fall months, I am usually found in my tree stand, praying for that big buck! I am an avid country music fan and love seeing my favorite artists when they are playing in the area. Last summer I got engaged at a Phil Vassar concert and am in the process of planning a wedding. This past summer, my fiancee and I welcomed our first puppy to our home. He is a German Shorthaired Pointer named Porter. We are really excited to start teaching him how to hunt!

This year brings many changes in the 2nd grade. Mrs. Thurin, Ms. Parish and myself have been working hard and putting our ideas together to make sure that all students in the 2nd grade will share the same great experiences. In regards to curriculum, we will be introducing Reader's Workshop  and Words Their Way into our classrooms. It's been a challenge, but I feel that the students will benefit immensely from both programs. We plan on doing lots of hands-on activities in Social Studies and Science and plan on really enjoying learning!!

During my first two years of teaching, one of my biggest challenges was organizing my classroom, but I am very confident that it has become a safe and exciting environment where all my students will have the opportunity to be themselves, learn, challenge themselves, and have fun.  I can't wait to utilize the technology that has been offered at the school district and bring my own ideas to enhance each student's opportunity to learn.  I am here to build relationships with my students, their families, and the community and look forward to an amazing 2016-2017 school year!
